Financial News: Campaigners give up battle for HBOS

The two Scottish bankers campaigning for HBOS to remain independent rather than be taken over by Lloyds TSB gave up their fight on Friday.Sir George Mathewson, former chairman of Royal Bank of Scotland, and Sir Peter Burt, former chief executive of Bank of Scotland, had hoped to win investor support to halt the takeover and run the bank themselves.
