LONDON - Carphone Warehouse could open between 30 to 50 stores in a new format by the end of 2009, chief financial officer Roger Taylor told Reuters in an interview. Up to 200 existing large stores could also be upgraded to include elements of the new format, Taylor said. The new format stores include areas for gaming and convergence technology that links TVs, PCs and other electronics. The first such store has launched at the Westfield shopping centre in west London, which opened its doors to the public last week. When asked about Carphone Warehouse's potential interest in Tiscali UK, Taylor said: "In terms of excitement in investment today I'd probably see this the new format stores as a more exciting investment."
